Three common methods of producing composite films.

Currently, packaging companies in Vietnam are using 3 main technologies to produce laminated films:

1. Extrusion lamination:

Using melted PE plastic and coating it onto the surface of the film.
The laminated film is then fed into pressing rollers.
Advantages: Low cost.
Disadvantages: Slow speed.

2. Solvent bonding:

Use a solvent to dissolve the adhesive layer.
The adhesive layer is then coated onto the surface of the membranes to be bonded.
The membranes are pressed together under pressure and temperature.
Advantages: High adhesion strength, can bond different types of materials.
Disadvantages: The use of solvents causes environmental pollution and affects the health of workers.

3. Solventless lamination:

Use a hot melt adhesive layer to bond the films together.
The adhesive layer melts upon contact with heat.
The films are pressed together under pressure.
Advantages: Cost-saving, environmentally friendly, and safe for workers’ health.
Disadvantages: Adhesion strength may not be as good as solvent-based lamination.

The choice of suitable method will depend on various factors such as:

Type of film material to be laminated.
Adhesion requirements.
Heat resistance.
Production cost.
Environmental impact.
In addition to the above three common methods, there are also other methods for laminating composite films such as UV lamination, plasma lamination, etc. However, these methods are less commonly used due to high cost and limited application.
